    The Central Government has introduced the PAN 2.0 project to enhance digital experiences for taxpayers. With a budget of ₹1,435 crore, the project aims to simplify PAN/TAN services and improve security. Under this initiative, taxpayers can receive their e-PAN card directly on their registered email address for free. The e-PAN will feature a dynamic QR code that reflects the latest PAN database details.

    While QR-coded PAN cards have been available since 2017-18, the PAN 2.0 project plans to introduce significant upgrades, including dynamic QR codes. For those with older PAN cards lacking this feature, there’s an option to upgrade under both the existing PAN 1.0 and the new PAN 2.0 ecosystems.

    Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to request and download your digital PAN card from NSDL and UTI portals.

    Key Features of Digital PAN Under PAN 2.0

    1. Dynamic QR Code:
      The updated e-PAN will include a dynamic QR code that displays the latest data from the PAN database, ensuring better verification and security.
    2. Free e-PAN Delivery:
      Applicants can request their digital PAN card free of cost up to three times within 30 days of application or changes. Beyond this, a nominal fee of ₹8.26 (inclusive of taxes) will apply.
    3. Physical QR-Coded PAN Option:
      For those preferring a physical copy, a QR-coded PAN card can be requested by paying ₹50.
    4. Accessibility:
      Both new applicants and existing PAN holders can avail this facility via the NSDL or UTI portals.

    Steps to Get Your Digital PAN via NSDL

    If your PAN card was issued by NSDL, follow these steps to download your e-PAN:

    1. Access the NSDL Portal

    • Visit the official NSDL portal.
    • Alternatively, directly access the e-PAN download page at this link.

    2. Enter Required Details

    • Provide your PAN number, Aadhaar number, and the month and year of your birth.
    • Agree to the terms and conditions by selecting the checkbox and click “Submit.”

    3. Verify Information

    • Cross-check the PAN-related details displayed on the screen to ensure they match the Income Tax Department’s records.

    4. Select Delivery Method

    • Choose whether to receive your e-PAN via the email or mobile number linked to your Aadhaar.
    • Enter the OTP sent to your registered contact within 10 minutes to verify your request.

    5. Payment for Older Requests

    • If your PAN was issued or updated more than 30 days ago, pay the fee of ₹8.26 (inclusive of taxes).
    • Proceed by clicking the “Continue” button after payment.

    6. Receive e-PAN on Email

    • Your e-PAN will be sent to your registered email ID with the Income Tax Department.

    For PAN cards issued by UTI Infrastructure Technology and Services Limited (UTIITSL), the process is slightly different:

    1. Visit UTIITSL Portal

    • Go to the UTIITSL e-PAN download page.

    2. Enter Basic Details

    • Input your PAN number, birth month and year, and the captcha code displayed on the screen.
    • Click “Submit” to proceed.

    3. Check Email Status

    • The portal will indicate whether your email ID is registered with the PAN database.

    4. Update Email if Necessary

    • If no email is registered, you’ll need to update your contact details under the PAN 2.0 system once it becomes available. This service will be free initially.

    5. Download Your e-PAN

    • Once the verification process is complete, your e-PAN will be available for download or sent to your registered email.
