Ensuring that your employer regularly deposits the provident fund (PF) contributions deducted from your salary is crucial for your financial security. The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) offers several straightforward methods to help you monitor your PF account balance and confirm timely deposits. This guide outlines four easy ways to check your EPF balance, ensuring transparency and peace of mind.

Check Your EPF Balance via the EPFO Member Portal

The EPFO’s online portal provides a user-friendly interface to access your PF account details. Here’s how to use it:

    • Access the Portal: Visit the EPFO Member Passbook portal.
    • Log In: Enter your Universal Account Number (UAN) and password. If you’re a first-time user, you’ll need to activate your UAN by providing your Aadhaar-linked mobile number and following the verification steps.
    • View Your Passbook: Once logged in, select the relevant Member ID to view your passbook, which displays your transaction history and current balance.

Use the UMANG App for Convenient Access

The Government of India’s UMANG app integrates various services, including EPFO functionalities:

    • Download the App: Install the UMANG app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
    • Register and Login: Complete the registration process using your mobile number, then navigate to the ‘EPFO’ section.
    • View Passbook: Log in with your UAN and password to access your EPF passbook and check your balance.

    Check Your Balance via SMS

For those who prefer not to use online portals or apps, EPFO provides an SMS service:

    • Compose a Message: Type “EPFOHO UAN” and send it to 7738299899 from your registered mobile number.
    • Language Preferences: To receive the message in a regional language, add the first three letters of your preferred language after your UAN. For example, for Hindi, send “EPFOHO UAN HIN”. This service supports languages like Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Bengali.

Note: Ensure your UAN is activated and linked with your KYC details to use this service.

Give a Missed Call to Receive Balance Details

Another quick method is the missed call service:

    • Dial the Number: Give a missed call to 9966044425 from your registered mobile number.
    • Receive SMS: After the call disconnects, you’ll receive an SMS containing your PF balance and the details of the last contribution.

Prerequisites: Your UAN must be activated, and your mobile number should be registered with EPFO. Additionally, your UAN should be linked with your bank account, Aadhaar, or PAN.

Importance of Regularly Checking Your EPF Balance

Regular monitoring of your EPF account ensures that both your and your employer’s contributions are correctly deposited. It also helps in early detection of discrepancies, allowing for timely resolution. By utilizing these accessible methods, you can stay informed about your retirement savings and maintain financial security.
